Description

The Cross-Consensus Message Format (XCM) is a language and format designed for communication between consensus systems, facilitating interoperability in Polkadot and other consensus-driven entities. XCM allows blockchains to interact using a standardized messaging format. Although often linked to Polkadot's parachains, XCM can be applied broadly to any consensus system, including EVM smart contracts and other bridged systems. XCM defines the structure and content of messages, but not their delivery. The delivery is managed by protocols like XCMP (Cross Chain Message Passing) and others like HRMP and VMP.
